Possible cataclysms in the solar system
Our big home, the Solar system has existed for several billion years. And most of the time of its existence, as it allows you to judge the research data, it remained almost unchanged. This does not mean that all this time it was the «same as now»: slightly changed the orbits of the planets, their distances from the Sun and orbital period, but its composition and the order of the planets remained in the same form billions of years ago.
In fact, future events have little impact on the processes occurring in the vicinity of the Sun, however, if we consider their impact on our lives, it will be very significant. And this, unfortunately, is an unpleasant fact, because mankind still does not have the opportunity, anyway, for these processes to influence. What might happen in the Solar system, and what consequences this will have for mankind?
The sun, being the gravitational centre of our system determines almost all processes occurring in it. The orbits of the planets, their periods, their temperature and other parameters are entirely dependent on the Sun and its activity. The sun is very stable star, located approximately in the middle of its life, so for quite a long time of its existence it has made our system the same stable: the planets in orbits corresponding to their masses and velocities. And everything would be fine, if not some of the nuances.
A serious problem that may face mankind, is the meteor danger. The main «troublemaker» in the Solar system is Jupiter. This giant planet has a huge mass, which leads to permanent changes in the behaviour of minor planets (asteroids) and comets. Due to the gravity of Jupiter their orbits are distorted, which in some cases leads to a collision of these objects with each other or of such changes in their orbits that they fall into the Sun or Jupiter.
Only in the last 50 years, scientists have observed dozens of such phenomena. Naturally, they have happened before, but we didn’t know about them simply because humanity did not have the necessary means for their observation. But we wonder something else: in its movement to these two huge sources of mass (the Sun and Jupiter) small planets can fly dangerously close to Earth. Since the beginning of observations of the asteroids have three documented cases of dangerous rapprochement with the Earth celestial bodies that can completely destroy life on our planet. And we can do nothing to counter this danger because, firstly, you do not have sufficient time for a timely response to these events, and, second, do not have the means, capable to prevent it.
Other dangerous cataclysm is changes as our planet’s orbit and tilt of its axis. The fact that the current Earth ecosystem is primarily determined by these parameters. Changing any one of them will lead to serious climate change and yet the fact that we will be able to survive in the new environment. No, life on Earth will not be destroyed completely, however, for mankind will be of little consolation if our planet will remain only cockroaches, ants and turtles… the Cause of these phenomena may be, for example, the loss of Land of the moon. It has long been known that every year the Moon moves away from earth 4 cm and, like, a billion years, it will be only thirty thousand kilometers. But we don’t know, increases or decreases the removal rate and how it will be affected by other events in our system that could upset the delicate gravitational balance that exists at present.
One of these events are the processes of the planet mercury. Let’s start with the fact that astronomers, before the theory of relativity, could not explain the motion of mercury using only Newton’s laws. That is, mercury is so close to the Sun that his behavior cannot be explained by classical physics. And the estimate in the first approximation, has shown that relatively soon mercury is so close to the Sun that is captured by gravity and falls on him.
It would seem, well and what? The mass of mercury is very small, and the disappearance of the well will not affect the stability of the other planets. However, it is not. Due to the huge speed mercury has a large enough moment of inertia and when it will disappear, this moment is distributed on other planets. Giants like Jupiter and Saturn, it won’t hurt, but what processes occur on Earth is the big question. It is possible to begin another great movement of tectonic plates and there will be new continents, and maybe that would be even worse – getting the Earth or the Moon more energy of rotation will lead to their collision. And then the question of our survival will not be considered.
No less dangerous to people are the and changes of solar activity, which can be caused by reasons, which grounders may not even suspect. If only 15% will increase the number of particles of the solar wind reaching the Earth, its magnetosphere will not be able to resist them, the ozone layer will be destroyed, and the radiation levels on our planet will increase by about a hundred times. This will cause total cancer diseases, and, in fact, will survive only those who can hide in special shelters. And that is what they will be able to stay without food and water?
Reasons that can lead to an increase in Solar radiation, can be any number from a collision of the Sun with quite a large object to a natural increase in its activity, which mankind does not know. After all, we are studying the Sun more than 300 years.
What to do to humanity in order to protect themselves from possible disasters on a cosmic scale? The only option to save our species is the early colonization of all possible places in the Solar system, where it is theoretically possible to create the conditions for our life.
