High technology of the ancients in the Indian city of Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram, known in the West primarily as a great place for swimming, is located 58 km South of Madras, on an almost desert, famous for its white sand coast in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
In addition to the quiet pleasures of bathing in the sea, in this place, now numbering no more than 12 thousand people waiting for us countless archeological rarities of great interest primarily from the point of view of the hypothesis paleocontacts.
Mahabalipuram is already more than two millennia ago, was well known Phoenician, Greek, and Arab merchants and sailors. In the VII century ad the port was enlarged and rebuilt, and the city became the capital of the Kingdom Pavella. In VII—X centuries ad the city is literally flourished under the rule of the kings of the dynasty Papally.
The glory of this dynasty brought particular her patronage of all the arts and erected the monuments of sacral and religious architecture. In addition, in our day Mahabalipuram is considered the cradle of dravidijskie temple architecture on the southern coast of India.
This fruitful period that lasted almost three centuries, ended in a very unexpected and mysterious ways. In the X century, the inhabitants suddenly left Mahabalipuram. Treasures of ancient architecture were abandoned and lay forgotten until the XVII century
One possible (but, in my opinion, not quite clarifying the essence of the matter) the reasons for such Exodus of people with a rich and habitable coastal strip, according to archaeologists, could be the sea-level rise and associated flooding of the city. Local residents, however, said that Mahabalipuram was abandoned at the behest of «the gods», and above all — the God Shiva.
Diverse relationships with Indian mythology and the Pantheon of Hindu deities are manifested in Mamallapuram and the surrounding area in various ways. The most famous of them are Church buildings and reliefs created in the Board Narasimhavarman I (630-668 ad). From the nickname of this ruler — «Mamalla» (which means «great warrior»), the city received its original name: Mamallapuram.
Near the center of town is one of the most famous bas-reliefs of that era: the image of various mythical figures, plants, birds and animals, including elephants, are shown in natural size. Archaeologists and historians have long debated whether this huge (length of it is 27 m and the height is 9 m) frieze depiction of Arjuna’s penance or we are talking about the picture of the mythical phenomena in the earth of the sacred river Ganges, described in the epic Mahabharata.
According to this image, and theory, safely preserved in our days, the Ganges emerged from the natural cleft in the rocks. The right depicts Shiva, letting in tide through your own hair, thus saving the world from destruction as a result of rampant water element. But whatever the theory eventually prevailed, it will not affect the exciting attractive force of these masterfully executed stone statues.
The use of highly technical means
On the near slope of the mountain located just eight mandapams. Mandapam is an ancient cave temple, carved directly in the thickness of the solid rocks. Inside there is a finely-crafted bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
The most beautiful of these cave temples is the Krishna mandapam. In his reliefs shows how Krishna using the mountain of Govardhana as a kind of protective screen, saved their shepherds and flocks of sheep from Indra, a ferocious God of rain and thunderstorms.
Two of these mandapams remained unfinished. It was suggested that in this case we are talking about models and attempts to create temples of a different type, characteristic of southern India. It is established that the statistical calculations in the field of architecture in principle differ little from ancient practices.
An example of this is the so-called school of sculpture in Mamallapuram. This place served as a kind of ancient an experienced field — at least to this conclusion by historians. However, outside the field of their research is a clear relationship between these structures and local legends that have mention of technical tools and technologies used in the construction of these remarkable objects.
If we consider the complex of Mahabalipuram in General, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the temples of dynasty Pavella no doubt erected on the grounds, Dating back to much earlier constructions. If we assume that sacred buildings sometimes compute an experienced field, then this applies even more to the original complex.
So, until our days there were numerous rocks multimeter height, if cut in the middle by some giant knife. The decision of such technical problems is extremely difficult even when using the latest construction technology. Moreover, the impression that the rocks were actually applied the most modern technical means, since the contacting surfaces of the monoliths are perfectly smooth.
On other rocks, which apparently was used and the same mysterious construction machinery, arranged in the correct form of terraces. Steps carved into the solid rock and surprisingly smooth sanded, lead to nowhere. In the rocks here and there cut rectangular and square holes very impressive depth, and on the earth below them are fragments of huge stone slabs, polished and having a plurality of holes of unknown purpose.
These objects, as if covered with glaze, pale before strange weighing many tens of tons granite boulder that bears a strange name «butter head of Krishna» and for many thousands of years, contrary to all the laws of gravity, maintaining balance on highly inclined ledge near mandapam.
According to legend, the God Krishna created this piece of… butter. When he is bored playing with her, he had head on the ledge and turned her to stone. This strange monolith really impresses forgotten someone toys, though on its surface it is impossible to detect any traces of processing or «glaze», which he allegedly covered.
Similarly, there is no indication that this rock monolith created by artificial means, although a theoretical possibility that is not excluded
One of the mysterious objects Mamallapuram is a huge standing alone on the slope of a stone called «Oil head Krishna.» It is a natural phenomenon or artificially created, sawn and brought here stone gingerbread man?
Quite another thing — the vessel in which Krishna used to churn the butter for his head. Under this «barrel of oil» refers to a substantially circular recess with a diameter of 2.5 m and a depth of 2 m, which is literally carved into the rock. However, even with careful examination fails to detect any traces of mechanical interference (cutter etc.) that bear witness about conventional methods of treatment.
At the same time, the inner wall of the recess shone like polished.
Another example. Near the ancient lighthouse was found a rectangular tub of the size 2.3 x 3.0 m and a depth of about 2.0 m, made of granite. All over this rocky massif are preserved grooves and channels, which served in ancient times to collect some of the liquid. The length of this strange system of channels that have clearly artificial origin, according to conservative estimates, many miles.
It is necessary to mention the six so-called rata. This is a very special temples in form of chariots, carved from a single block of stone, which are at a distance of about a kilometre from the lighthouse. They are considered the most ancient structures of sacred nature in the region and served as a model for the vast majority of items late dravidijskie architecture.
I would like to stress that during the construction of these ancient buildings were used in a very complex and time-consuming construction method (creating a whole building from a solid rock monolith), whereas much later, HAK-called Shore temple dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, was constructed by the usual method, and was not carved in the rocks.
Another unusual construction — the Tiger Cave
In this case, it is also clear that prehistoric knowledge and construction methods, which allowed to make almost invisible the stone when vyasasana objects from monolithic rocky boulders, over time, were lost and gone in the past.
In Mamallapuram at every step there are perfectly processed elements carved in solid granite
Up to the present day survived only the pitiful remnants of the once magnificent complex, on the role and purpose of which today we can only speculate. However, the impression that the temple of the dynasty Pavella was built on the ancient «Holy place» where good job the gods Shiva, Vishnu and Krishna.
It is possible that in relation to these «gods» we are talking about some supernatural, extraterrestrial beings, who appeared from the depths of the Universe. However, this is only one of the hypotheses.
As arguments in its favor it may be recalled that during the construction of buildings in Mamallapuram was used highly advanced technology that opens inconceivable even for us the possibility of working stone, and, to put it mildly, is not consistent with classical ideas about the construction methods used in ancient times.
Anyway, Mahabalipuram can be seen as evidence of the existence in prehistoric times of a highly developed construction techniques.
